Unclaimed policy benefits tracing for insurers.
South African long-term insurers hold an estimated R18.9 billion in benefits that have become payable to policyholders and beneficiaries they cannot reach. xverified traces the policyholder or the nominated beneficiary, verifies them, and returns a claim pack and an audit trail per policy, before the regulator asks what was done.

Nominations on paper, lives that moved on.
- Matured with no claimant
- Endowments and paid-up policies mature decades after they were sold, to a policyholder whose address is the one on the original application.
- Beneficiary never told
- A death benefit is payable but the nominee does not know the policy exists. The nomination form names a person, often by name alone, with no ID number.
- Nominee has died
- The nominated beneficiary predeceased the policyholder or died before claiming. Entitlement moves to the estate or the next person under the policy terms.
- Lapsed with value
- Policies lapsed with a surrender or paid-up value the policyholder never collected.
- Weak keys
- Legacy systems carry names, dates of birth and partial ID numbers, which no exact-match lookup will resolve.

Index the nomination
Scanned nomination forms and policy schedules are indexed to the policy record so the nominee, as written, sits beside the policyholder's data. - 02
Resolve the people
Policyholder and nominee are resolved against the 14 sources and verified with Home Affairs. Deceased lives are expanded into family lineages to find the person now entitled. - 03
Trace and verify
Current contact details, then field tracing where needed. Identity confirmed in person, consent and the insurer's claim forms completed, bank account confirmed in the claimant's name. - 04
Claim pack per policy
Verified claimant, entitlement basis, documents and the dated journal of the trace, keyed on the policy number for the claims system.
A record of reasonable effort, per policy.
- Verified policyholder or beneficiary with current contact details and a confirmed bank account.
- Entitlement evidence: the nomination, the relationship records, or the estate appointment where the nominee has died.
- Signed consent, certified ID copy and the insurer’s own claim forms, completed.
- The dated journal of every step, exportable as the record of reasonable effort for the FSCA.
- An exceptions report with reasons for policies that could not be resolved.
Fees are charged only on claimants verified to the agreed standard, capped per claim. See pricing.
Insurer questions
Which policies does this cover?
Life, funeral, endowment, retirement annuity and credit life policies where a benefit has become payable and the insurer cannot reach the policyholder or the nominated beneficiary, including matured policies with no claimant and paid-up policies on legacy books.
What if the nominated beneficiary cannot be found or has died?
We expand the lineage from the policyholder and the nominee using Home Affairs records, so the insurer can identify the next person entitled under the policy terms or the estate, and we trace and verify that person.
How does this help with the regulator?
The FSCA expects insurers to make reasonable efforts to trace policyholders and beneficiaries of unclaimed benefits and to keep records of those efforts. The journal we return per policy is that record.
Can you run this on a closed or legacy book?
Yes. Closed books are the usual starting point because the data is oldest and the nomination forms are on paper. We accept scanned nomination bundles and index them to the policy record before matching.
Is the insurer's data used for anything else?
No. Policy data is processed only for the trace described in the engagement letter, inside South Africa, and is deleted or returned at the end of the engagement. It is never used to enrich other records.
Find your
unclaimed.
We start with a scoped sample sweep under a short engagement letter, typically 5 000 dormant records, so you see the recovery rate before you commit to a full programme. You pay only for beneficiaries we trace and verify. See how pricing works.
